Confidence Cues

Visual indicators that communicate an AI's certainty level, helping users decide when to trust and when to verify.

Confidence cues are UI elements that show the AI's estimated certainty: a percentage, a color, a disclaimer, or a 'low confidence' label. They help users calibrate their trust: high confidence means 'safe to delegate,' low confidence means 'verify before using.' Without confidence cues, users must guess the AI's reliability, which leads to either excessive verification (wasting time) or excessive trust (risking errors). Confidence cues are a form of radical transparency that makes the AI's inner state visible.
