Identity Integration
The process by which a product becomes part of the user's self-image, making it emotionally costly to switch away.
Identity integration is the deepest form of product stickiness: when using the product becomes part of who the user is. "I'm a Figma person." "I'm a Notion person." "I'm a Vim person." When identity is integrated, switching is not just a functional change; it is an identity change. The user must become someone new to adopt the new product. This creates a powerful Habit force because the cost of switching includes social and emotional dimensions beyond the product's features. Products that achieve identity integration often do so through community, craft, and culture, not just utility.
