Re-hire
The act of a user returning to a product after trying an alternative, often because the new solution failed to deliver progress.
Re-hire is what happens when a user fires one product, hires another, and then fires the new one to return to the old one. It is the product equivalent of "the grass is greener." Re-hires reveal that the switching forces were miscalculated: the pull of the new solution was overestimated, or the habit force of the old solution was underestimated. Products that experience high re-hire rates are winning the switching moment but losing the first five minutes. The antidote is to ensure the new product delivers visible progress faster than the user can second-guess their decision.
