Commitment and Consistency
The tendency to act in ways consistent with prior commitments, building investment in a product.
Commitment and consistency means that once a user has invested time, data, or identity in a product, they are more likely to continue using it to justify that investment. This is the sunk cost effect in behavioral design. Products that encourage early investment—customization, data import, team invites—create stickiness not through the product's value alone but through the user's desire to be consistent with their past choices.
