You survived the blink. Now you have roughly 14 seconds before the user decides whether to invest further attention.
In the first 14 seconds, are already at work.

14 Hours: The Return
The user closed the tab. They went back to their life.
The 14-hour window is the first true test of stickiness. The initial curiosity has faded. Real life—meetings, deadlines, competing priorities—has intervened. Now the question becomes: when the relevant problem resurfaces, do they think of you?
This is where hot triggers matter. Not spam. Not desperate "we miss you" emails. Genuine, well-timed prompts that reconnect the user to the value they started to experience.
It's also where the quality of the first 14 minutes pays off. If the user felt a real win, they have a reason to return. If they just configured settings and watched tutorials, there's nothing pulling them back.
For AI products, this is where the demo high often collapses. The first output was interesting. The user was curious. The product felt smart. But when the real moment of need returns, does the product have a role? Does it show up when the old problem reappears? Does it remember enough to make the next session easier? Does it help the user continue instead of starting from zero?

14 Days: The Habit Check
The first two weeks are where “trying it” turns into “using it.”
By day 14, a product has done three things:
- the user has repeated the core workflow enough times that it feels familiar,
- the product has created a reason to return (not just once, but repeatedly), and
- staying now feels easier than going back to the old way.
If you don’t see repeat usage by this point, it’s rarely because the user didn’t “like” the product. It’s because the product never became their default.
This is where stickiness compounds. accumulates. Customizations add up. Workflows solidify. The user is doing more than just trying your product at this point. They're building something inside it.

Auditing Your Product’s Sticky Timeframe
Walk through each timeframe with a member of your and ask:
14 milliseconds: Screenshot your landing page. Show it to someone for one second. What do they feel? Does it align with your intentions?
14 seconds: Can they identify what you do and how its relevant to them — without scrolling, without clicking, without effort?
14 minutes: Observe a user's first real workflow. Where do they get stuck? How long before they accomplish something meaningful? Are they aware that something valuable happened?
14 hours: What brings users back the next day? Is it a trigger you designed, or are you hoping they remember on their own?
14 days: What does the Day 14 user have that the Day 1 user doesn't? ? Customization? Habits? If nothing has accumulated, nothing holds them.
If users aren't sticking, your first instinct is to add more value. That’s understandable, but usually the real problem is happening earlier: they never even saw the value you built when it mattered most.
Products that survive the AI gold rush won’t be the ones that simply add the most AI. They’ll be the ones that understand user intent deeply enough to create fast recognition, early relief, repeatable , and accumulated trust.
